Blame Facebook I guess. Anybody else getting a little tired of Facebook?

I was reading today about how they (Facebook Execs and academics) were messing with the number of positive or negative posts that would appear in your feed. Then they would monitor whether or not you would follow the crowd and post in kind to what you were shown. I think that's kind of sick. Why mess with people's heads? How many people logged on to receive a pick me up from their friends and instead were shown a bunch of negative junk? Jerk move.

I miss reading a post more than 3 lines long (or 140 characters). I miss reading posts that were well thought out, and had substance to them. Even if I disagreed with them, at least I could understand where someone was coming from. I miss thinking about something and telling people about it instead of 'sharing' the thoughts of someone else. I miss blogging.Sushiboyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896496364940804764noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21274051.post-85754153178777683262012-02-28T00:29:00.000-07:002012-02-28T00:29:49.937-07:00Sushiboyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896496364940804764noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21274051.post-41824225862613714852010-12-22T14:19:00.006-07:002010-12-22T18:13:56.434-07:00Let it Snow

Merry Christmas!
From the Sushiboy home to your home!
May your Holidays be white.
(but hopefully not too white, and definitely not blue)
Sushiboyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896496364940804764noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21274051.post-31031599242560937352010-11-09T00:01:00.003-07:002010-11-12T09:54:12.112-07:00National Geographic Article of the Month: November 2010Like my dad did, I have a subscription to the National Geographic Magazine. Unlike my father, I usually don't get around to reading it cover to cover each month.

I really like the NG and I find most every piece that appears in it interesting. I just don't feel like I have the free time to justify reading it in full. I usually end up reading only one or two articles, and just skimming the rest of the magazine.

Since a blog is all about sharing; I am going to share the article from each issue (if I get around to it) that I thought was interesting enough to merit a closer read.

Soooo.... Here goes.

November 2010: Japan's Ocean Wilderness

What it's about: Awesome Japanese Marine Wildlife.

Length Very Short.

Style of Text: Succinct overview of the photography project with poetic undercurrents (undercurrents haha).

Photographs: Absolutely amazing.

What I liked: Beautiful Photography. Probably one of my favorite subject matters. Did I mention the photos?

What I did not like: A little too short.

You can check the entire article and photos by following the link to the <a href=http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2010/11/japans-ocean-wilderness/berwald-text">National Geographic Website.Sushiboyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896496364940804764noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21274051.post-73018225085656014852010-11-03T20:00:00.000-07:002010-11-03T20:00:01.504-07:00Go here and read this. May I recommend going back to school.

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad I went back to school. Just between that and everything else, it doesn't leave much time for blogging.

Well its been an interesting few months... I'd just thought I review my resolutions for the year.

1. Eating Healthier.

Eating Breakfast(Check, Usually this is two or three slices of whole grain toast with butter)

Bring a lunch (I'm doing very well here as well. Of course losing my job and being on a tighter budget helped this one along)

Cut back on soda (I haven't done this one very well at all, I'm up to 3 or 4 cokes a day)

Two of three in this category. Not bad... not great.

2. Exercising More

Walk a lot (I walk less now than I used to)

Exercise More (my new job is about a 100 yards from a gym, I just got a membership now I just need to go)

I'm not sure how to count this. I walk less because I don't ride the bus, I don't ride the bus because it wouldn't work out with my new job. So its a failure but there isn't much I can do about it. As for the gym membership, I just need to go (got the membership yesterday). Zero for two. For now.

3. Get Enough Sleep

overall I'm doing ok

but finals week I only got 29 hours over a 7 day period, 56 hours would be ideal (8*7)

I still could do better on this, though I am doing better than I was.

4. Earn Straight A's

So far so good

It was a close one this time. The layoff really affected my motivation early in the semester. Although I earned A's, it was just barely. Toward the end of the semester I really got my mojo back. My friend was named valedictorian (Congrats Matt) and that really reminded me of my goal. I feel pretty motivated going into the summer semester. I should graduate next April. (Under one year left)

5. Look Presentable

I feel like I'm doing pretty well on this

Job hunting and a new job have really helped me adopt a new habit here.

Well, the resolutions are doing pretty well on the whole, but there is still work to be done.

In other news. The new job is nice. I bought a new-to-me car (the subject of another post) and a new attachment to my grill (a side fire box, brisket anyone?).

So how is life for you?Sushiboyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896496364940804764noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21274051.post-61956874913514510652010-04-04T14:09:00.006-06:002010-04-04T19:27:21.227-06:00Happy Easter!

Tank started walking this weekend. Thank goodness the shortest month is in the winter. Wouldn't you feel shortchanged if the shortest month was in the summer? (Like it is in the Southern Hemisphere?) Yup, all the seasons have the same amount of days, but like many adults my time seems to pass in months (and if I am feeling poor, in paychecks).

February wasn't bad, March looks to be even better.Sushiboyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896496364940804764noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21274051.post-12957000233802185182010-02-02T02:48:00.001-07:002010-02-02T02:49:17.029-07:00January StunkJanuary was a pretty terrible month all things considered.

February is already looking up.Sushiboyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896496364940804764noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21274051.post-33488132509017354302009-12-30T22:12:00.002-07:002009-12-30T22:22:27.962-07:00I Resolve To....

Eat Healthier

I need to eat breakfast.

I need to bring a lunch.(instead of eating off the dollar menu)

I need to cut back on soda, from two cans a day to one.

Exercise

Walk a lot. (which I already do)

Get in 30 minutes of intense aerobic 3 times a week. (which I don't do, yet)

Get enough sleep

This will probably be the hardest thing for me to do.

This would probably help me and my health the most.

Earn Straight A's

This seems to get harder each semester I've been back.

As silly as it sounds, I want to be the valedictorian.

Look Presentable

Sometimes I've looked in the mirror in the middle of the day and realized that I looked like I was run over by a Mack Truck. I've thought, "have I really been out in public, looking this crappy all day?"

I think this will be mostly accomplished by going to bed on time (hard when there is homework due).

Most of my resolutions focus around being a little healthier. I think I've pretty much ran my body into the ground over the past two and a half years (stupid school :P). Between lack of sleep, too much caffeine and soda, and eating too much fatty fast food; I think my immune system is shot. We (the family and I) caught H1N1 back in October, while the Flu wasn't so bad, I haven't felt really "well" since. Superwoman will catch a bug and be over it in a day. I'll catch what seems to be the same bug and it hangs on for a week and a half. It's time to start taking better care of myself, I'm sick of feeling lousy all the time.

The grade goals seem to work in opposition to this, it seems to be the difference between 89% and 95% is always a few hours of sleep. So while I work on taking better care of myself I'll really have to budget my time well so my grades don't suffer.

Wish me Luck! ... and may you all have a FANTASTIC 2010.Sushiboyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896496364940804764noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21274051.post-46415527077025590142009-12-20T00:56:00.002-07:002009-12-20T01:05:02.281-07:00Does this thing still work?.... (I haven't forgiven them for 1988, am I that old?)

Despite rooting for Philly, I had to admit NY played a heck of a game last night. All hustle and no quit.

The Yankees got a heck of a player when they snatched Johnny Damon from the Sox.

After very little TV for the last 2+ years, it strikes me how stupid the advertisements are.

Wow, amazing catch by Gardner of the Yankees, (bottom of the 5th) I'm impressed with the way they are playing ball. Crying cause he is a low life cheater, and he finally feels bad about it? Or crying cause he was caught? Crying because he was caught, is my guess. Especially since he came out and said his Mistress is his 'soul-mate'. What really torques me off is the hypocrisy of it all. Back in the 90's he referred to Clinton's behavior, and affair as "reprehensible". So he didn't lie about his affair like Clinton did, but so what? He still cheated on his wife. And instead of leaving the mistress and trying to honor the promises he made when he was married, he is now running off with his mistress. What an idiot. I've said it once and I'll say it again. Men who cheat on their wives are the lowest of the low. He once said, "It is my personal view that the largest proclamation of one's faith ought to be in how one lives his life." Well we know how seriously he took his faith, what a hypocrite. One joke says, "He has a conservative mind but a liberal penis." Not fair to the Liberals I say. I think trust and fidelity in marriage are pretty universal ideas.

Promise-Gate Senator Ensign also professed to be a man of faith. A member of the Promise Keepers. He broke promises 3 and 4. (among others I'm sure)

PROMISE 3
A Promise Keeper is committed to practicing spiritual, moral, ethical, and sexual purity.

PROMISE 4
A Promise Keeper is committed to building strong marriages and families through love, protection and biblical values.

Now I know that everyone makes mistakes. But affairs, those are real doozies, especially when you claim to be candidate that stands up for traditional morals. Everything I can say about him, I've already said above. The dude is scum.

Both of these men either spoke out against Clinton's affair or belonged to groups which spoke out against Clinton's affair. They, or so they claimed, were on the Moral high-ground.... Ah the Moral High Ground, If you are there why not stay there? If extra-marital affairs are bad when Democrats are doing them, aren't they at least as bad (i.e. much worse) when Republicans are doing them? If the GOP professes to be the party of Christian values, then the GOP shouldn't tolerate it's members screwing around out side of marriage, period. Taking the more secular path, If the GOP wanted Clinton to step down because of his affair, why isn't it calling it's own members to step down when they make the same idiotic blunder? (Both Parties are just as guilty as each other on this)

There is the Christian vote, the black vote, the latino vote, the NASCAR vote. Politics seems to be divided into racial, religious and other forms of pandering. These men are classic examples of the pandering to the Christian Vote. "Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves" (Matt. 7:15) They looked the part, but sure didn't act it. In this world of sound bytes and buzzwords how do we cut through the crap and see who we are really voting for? How can we avoid voting in these types of people?

Did these men start out as ravenous wolves? Or did they start out all right and get corrupted along the way? Should we have seen it coming? My Democrat friends will say, duh, they were Republicans, of course you could see it coming. For my rebuttal to that, see the first Scandalgate post.

My opinion is that both of the major parties are too big and too entrenched into the Washington system of loose morals, loose ethics and loose promises. They all stand for values, until they think no one is looking. Charm, Charisma and Slickness seem to win out over Manners, Competency and Honesty. I don't think we value "Acting Presidential" over "Looking Presidential".

The fact that Mark Sanford's name was getting thrown around for 2012 scares me. Mark Sanford had the presidential image, but he certainly didn't have the presidential conduct. I'm glad he is out of the running. I'd take Harry Reid over Mark Sanford (and coming from me, that is saying something).Sushiboyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896496364940804764noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21274051.post-65230766708422552642009-08-06T10:49:00.003-06:002009-08-06T10:58:51.453-06:00More Weird AlWe interrupt this blog's regular schedule of no posts to bring you a pointless Weird Al Video....

...

That's all I got... Nerdy, but that's the way I roll.

I started a blog so I could keep track of everything I'm doing/learning. It's pretty in depth, it's very nerdy and reading it will probably make your head hurt. But if your Pocket Protector is thick enough to contain the overwhelming geekiness going on over there, you just may enjoy it.

Sushiboy's Cocoa & iPhone Development.
